DIWALI MELA 2012 @GLEBE PARK on 11 Nov 12
THE EPILOGUE
Diwali Mela, the festival of lights, symbolically celebrating a victory of good over evil and the most popular festival in India, was celebrated with lots of enthusiasm, fun and frolic in Glebe Park. The Day long Mela was filled programs of highest magnitude ever before staged in Diwali Melas in Canberra.
The Mela was divided into three segments to represent the Indian National Flag. Symbolizing courage and sacrifice, Saffron was the first of the very prominent tricolour of the Indian national flag – a flag which fills the hearts of every Indian with patriotism and pride. From our cradle of great history, culture and tradition, the Opening Ceremony kick-started the day's celebrations with programs to represent the first of the tricolours in this fun filled day of Diwali Mela 2012.
The Opening Ceremony was well received with kids dressed up as Devi and Ganesh mascots and couples representing the states of India as ambassadors to give us glimpse of the culture in their states.
The large number of complimentary emails and discussions, including FINACT Facebook, shows that the 10 am to 8 pm Diwali Mela 2012, successfully fulfilled our four main objectives.
Thank you: DIWALI MELA 2011The large number of complimentary emails and discussions, including Jai Ho and FINACT web sites, show that the 10 am to 8 pm Diwali Mela 2011, successfully fulfilled our four main objectives.
1. Community Festival Celebrations Food stalls served over to 2250 customers. This provides an estimate of the attendance. The large number of non-Indian presence shows publicity, including on TV, was successful. Every stall holder, without exception, was highly satisfied commercially. A number of possible stall holders expressed repentance for not holding a stall and promised to definitely hold stalls in Diwali Mela 2012
Diwali Mela 2010: Thank you for your participation
Dear friend
We also thank all the participants, their parents, sponsors, all the participating associations and organisations in the ACT. Our special thanks to our volunteers and some of the stall holders who travelled interstate.
Thanking and naming a few volunteers will not do justice to all other volunterrs who have been working tirelessly behind the scene. We will prepare and post a comprehensive report of the mega event shortly.
We also intend to publish some photographs and invite all the attendees to send photographs they have taken. We will publish selected photographs with credits and contributors' name on the website.
We wish you a very happy and prosperous new year. Thank you once again and hope your assistance, moral support and valuable suggestions will continue to encourage us for a better Diwali Mela 2011.
